We Are Usually Asked About
1.What exactly is surrogacy?
Surrogacy involves a woman who carries a child to term and then relinquishes the baby to the intended parent(s) upon delivery. There are two main types of surrogacy: traditional and gestational. The traditional surrogate mother is genetically related to the child she is carrying, while a Gestational Surrogate is not. The Intended Parents will create the embryo(s) from IVF (In vitro-fertilization) with the eggs of the intended mother or an egg donor, which is then transferred into the Surrogate’s uterus. At IVY Surrogacy, we only offer gestational surrogates.
2.What are my responsibilities to be a surrogate?
You will be required to meet certain health and lifestyle standards to ensure that you could not only go through fertility treatments and medical preparation for the pregnancy, but also carry a healthy child to term with no complications. At IVY Surrogacy, we hope all of our surrogates to be loving , responsible, dependable, mature and able to keep appointments. No smoking (including second hand smoke), alcohol or drug use is allowed during the surrogacy.

Once this is completed, you will be placed on our database for matching.
5.How long do I need to wait to be matched?
We are known for highly efficient matching process. Typically, it takes from one to four weeks after you pass the interview, background check and placed on our database.
6. Can I select the intended parents I want to work with?
Absolutely, we understand that each woman chooses to become a surrogate mother for different reasons and with different expectations, so selecting with whom you would like to help create a family for is certainly an important part of your journey.
7. Are the intended parents also screened?
All intended parents are required by federal law to undergo sexually transmitted disease testing. All intended parents undergo a criminal background check just like our surrogates.
8.What kind of medications do I need to take during the process?
Different doctors might use different protocols. Some will involve injections, while others only involve oral medication. No matter injectable or oral medications, the clinic staff will instruct you how to take or teach you how to give yourself injections. At the same time, we will try our best to help you make it work.
9. Is the embryo transfer procedure painful?
Our gestational surrogates report that It is just like a sonogram performed, so there should be no pinching feeling. However, some surrogates do report that they get some cramping after the procedure, or feel a pinching or cramping a day or so after when the embryo actually attaches itself.
10. Will I be required to travel?
IVY Surrogacy primarily works with southern California IVF centers; however, we also work with centers in northern California and on occasion centers in the east coast. You will need to travel if you do not live close to the IVF center for medical screening and embryo transfer procedure. However, you will never be matched with a family when travel required unless you are willing to travel. If travel needed, all the expenses will be paid by the intended parents.
11. How are my compensation and medical bills paid?
IVY Surrogacy requires all intended parents to fund an escrow or attorney-client trust account once matched with you. Surrogate fees and reimbursements are paid monthly from the trust account, with medical bills being paid once submitted to us over the course of each month as well.
